Haze over the Mother City
Air Quality in Cape Town
The most recent campaign in the project being conducted by the CRG and the South African Weather Service to measure baseline pollution levels was conducted in Cape Town in May. Operations were based out of Saldanha Bay . Despite flights being hampered by the frequent passage of cold fronts, around 25 hours of flying were completed. Elevated levels of most major pollutants, including particulate matter, nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were measured in the haze.
